About Us

The college was established in 1960 with three subjects viz: Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics at Under-graduate level by the great educational visionary Bharamleen Shrimahant Indiresh Charan Dass ji.Dr Swaran Singh Tomar was the founder Head of the Department. The college in general and department of Chemistry in particular progressed well with time and became post-graduate department in 1966. Gradually the number of faculty members increased to ten with increase in strength of students in the College. During its journey of 55 years, Dr P P Painuli, Prof T P Singh and Prof G S Pundir have rendered their services as Heads’of the Department. Presently, Dr A K  Gupta is Head of the Department since 2005.

Under the supervision of Sajjada Nashin Shrimahant Devendra Das ji, the department received “Star Department” status from University Grants Commission in the Year 2011 and grants of RupeesTwenty two lakhs received from Department of Science and Technology under FIST scheme.

The Department has highly qualified energetic faculty of national repute and has excellent reputation as well as research activities. The department is a recognized research centre for Ph.D degree from H N B Garhwal Central University,Srinagar and Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun. Department is a counsel centre for Chemistry of Uttarakhand Open University for UG and PG  Courses and holding regular works shop for Garhwal region.A three months certificate course in “ Physico-Chemical Analysis of Water and Milk” is also run by the department.

The Department Library has 650 books besides more than 3200 books in Central Library and subscribing three Journals.  All the faculty members and PG students are member of INFLIBNET, thereby, having access to large number of e-books and e-journals.The well equipped labs and store are the prime attaraction of the department. The Departmental Labs have 30 different types of instruments and some sophisticated instrument in Instrumentation Lab are Gas Chromatograph, FT-IR, UV-Visible spectrophotometer,Ultrasonic Interferometer, Clevenger apparatus, Nephalometer, Flame Photometer and Microwave.

There is intake of  280 students at under graduate level in chemistry and 25 students at post graduate level with specialization in Organic Chemistry under CBCS system.
