Perspective Plan (2008-2013)

In August 2008, Faculty of Agriculture presented the Master Plan and Operational Plan to the management and has a commitment to semi-annually report on these.  Our immediate tasks include:

  • Launch the SGRR Institute for Sustainable Agriculture and create a network of researchers to foster communication and collaboration
  • Introduce coursework Masters Program in Agriculture and allied sciences
  • Broaden our offerings in distinctive technical certificates, apprenticeships and stand-alone courses and develop at provincial, national and international level for these offerings
  • Increase our teaching, professional image and community service intensiveness
  • Tap both national and external revenues for outreach (external funded centers) and support of research with alumni and industry investment
  • Expand external revenue for outreach with the caveat that such funding must supplement, not be a substitute for, adequate base funding of outreach activities
  • Encourage international experience, semester away academic exchanges so that students may move for postgraduate study through special agreements with overseas universities
  • Share international short courses or bridge courses through allocating student places across universities so that we can collectively resource a suite of international experience in several countries
  • Create Centre for Farm Research Management in partnership with departments across the SGRR, using participants from NGOs, industry, academia and government
  • Attract projects from industry and government to supplement base funded excellence with the initiatives in the areas listed below:
    • Organic Agriculture
    • Water and Waste Water Management
    • Controlled Environment Systems including green houses and post harvest
    • Social Forestry
  • Attract non-traditional learners to undergraduate program through summer institutes and partnering with higher secondary schools worldwide
  • Share and develop international resources in such areas as soil science, pest management, cereal breeding, greenhouse vegetables, holistic farming, agro-meteorology, earth sciences, resource management etc.
  • Develop, in collaboration with our medical college and research institute, an Institute for Food and Health—nutritional strategies for improved health for rural community

The future of Agriculture Industry in India seems to be bright. In the present scenario of globalization, WTO, GATT & IPR issue it will continue to discover, develop and market life-saving products, thereby improving quality of life. With the entry of large multinational companies the scenario will change further leading to more demand of Agriculture Graduates (B.Sc. Agriculture).

With the aim to suitably train manpower for the growing Agriculture Industry, particularly traditional fertilizer industry, sugarcane industry, food industry, wood industry, medicinal industry, cottage industry, seed companies etc. the SGRR Education Mission has started the programme of B.Sc. (Agriculture).

B.Sc. (Agriculture) is a four year, semester system, Bachelor Degree course affiliated to H.N.B.Garhwal University, Srinagar, with a curriculum that is designed to provide training along with classroom, field trials and laboratory instructions.

Eligibility : 10 + 2 with Biology/Mathematics/Agriculture/Forestry group. Admission on the basis of merit and personal interview.

Duration : 4 Years, Semester Syatem
