In the field of higher education in Dehradun, S.G.R.R. (P.G.) College holds a distinct place on account of its rich historical and philanthropic background. It is at the apex of S.G.R.R. Educatino Mission which, since 1952, has been providing quality education under the aegis of Darbar Shri Guru Ram Rai Sahib.
Darbar Sahib is a 350 years old religious and philanthropic organization which is running nearly 120 English medium Public Schools all over North India, besides 7 Inter Colleges one P.G. College, premier professional Institute such as S.G.R.R. Institute of Technology and Science, (SGRRITS) Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital and Medical College. S.G.R.R.I.T.S., since its inception in 1994, has carved a niche for itself and is today rated as a leading Institute among all professional Institute of Uttaranchal, because apart from running full time M.B.A., B.B.A., M.C.A., B.C.A., M.Pharma, B.Pharma, it is the only Institute in the state which offers part time M.B.A. and M.Pharma courses.
S.G.R.R. (P.G.) College was founded in 1960 by Brahmaleen Mahant Shri Indiresh Charandasji Maharaj to enable the meritorious but poor students of Uttaranchal and its neighbouring states to realise their dreams of pursuing higher education at nominal cost. Starting with only 3 subjects (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) at graduate level, the college has made steady progress over the years. At present, apart from Physics, Chemistry and Maths, Botany, Geology and Zoology are being taught at graduate level, whereas in Arts stream Hindi Litierature, English Literature, History, Sociology, Political Science and Economics are available for study.
At Post Graduate level, subjects offered in Science stream are Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Botany, Zoology and Geology. In Arts Faculty, P.G. Courses are available in English Literature, Economics, History, Political Science and Hindi Literature.
With the opening of Agriculture Faculty last year, the profile of the college has been future enriched. P.G. Diploma Courses in Mass Communication and Tourism have started from this session. Besides this, B.Ed. classes are also likely to commence from this session.
Situated amid idyllic and serene surroundings, the college provides the right ambience for teaching and learning. It has a well stocked library with over 25000 books and fully equipped Science labs. In keeping with its philanthropic ethos, Darbar Sahib makes a substantial contribution towards paying the tuition fees of the students of the college.
